At first thought you gasp, wondering why you bought a luxurious EYETALIAN car worth damn-near six figures with Dodge Dart switches.

But dig a little deeper and you realize – this is probably the only way they can still afford to make something called “Maserati” anymore.  

And worse yet – a Dodge Dart window switch is probably more reliable than a bespoke Italian one that works of its own volition.

I’m glad Genesis (sounds weird to say that) is still making them though.  They’re definitely tacking to the Infiniti strategy post-2003: make cars better than your competition, make them sporty, make them luxurious, hit below the price point.

Pity Infiniti has mostly forgotten that.

Something off-putting about a three-plus-decade-old car looking this clean.

Neat idea though.  The money-money would definitely go for this.

I feel like I read every few months that [Chinese automaker] is going to bring [generic crossover] as their first car to the US, and then it eventually gets forgotten about and gets replaced with a “NO WE’RE SUPER SRS THIS TIME GUISE” and again.

I think at some point Chinese manufacturers gave up and then they just slipped in the Buick Envision, which left the core Buick demographic furious.  If you said Hyundai was building a vehicle in China instead of South Korea to save cost, you’d see nary an eyelash batted.  But here we are.

People slam the Chinese car industry for blatant knockoffs, but it’s hard not to see a VW front and Infiniti sides. 

Oh well.  Maybe Goatse or whatever can try again next year.

Very, very few cars have lines as well-resolved as the 8-series do.  Especially from this angle, it just looks like a shark.

Guffaw at this 90s business backseat as you will, but this was hot shit back in the day.  Of course the red wood and electronics show age, but the white leather looks pleasantly contemporary, Zenlike.

Far beyond my pay grade to understand why modern Peugeots and Citroens and other forbidden fruit are still not sold in the US.

They look snazzy, they meet Euro NCAP crash test requirements which are comparable to our IIHS, and in all likelihood they’d be priced right.

So who knows, maybe this is a lead-in to something we just don’t know about yet.

Interesting piece and I’m sure the amount’s only increased in the past couple of years (though there’s only four listed with ten slides, thanks for that little deception USN&WR).

And of those assembled: one’s the Ford Focus which is supposed to start production in China, the Volvo S60 Inscription (which doesn’t make sense – apparently it’s produced in the US, a first for Volvo https://www.motortrend.com/news/volvo-s60-enters-production-new-u-s-plant/).

I’ve been teased by enough concepts – but by all means, bring back the gorgeous bench seats from 1920s-1930s coach cars.

I am completely floored by how smart this is.

There’s a lot to like here, but quite a bit to grimace at too.

To lift a Top Gear analogy, this would be as if Mercedes followed a Morris Marina type of evolution vs an Austin Allegro one.

Doorhandles / shape / rear / lights / interior all get two thumbs up.

But the side swoop is too severe, the grille could be integrated more intelligently, and overall the car needs stretching to resemble more of an E-Class shape.

Brilliant concept though.
