VW makes the family sedan badass

Family cars are designed to be boring and useful.

Never, ever let a bro drive a van, no matter how much he wants to call it a “swagger wagon”.

bros don’t let bros drive vans

Volkswagen is known for making cars that tend to be generic, boring, and cheap-looking.

But for the past decade, Volkswagen has owned brands that are certainly not, like Lamborghini, Bugatti, and Bentley.

Finally, some of that engineering and design skill is trickling down to the average VW, starting with the Passat.

Previously, the Passat was the car your weird neighbor or cousin with a superiority complex owned.

But the newest Passat looks like a BMW.

It has a strong, buff appearance, with cut lines and clean corners.

No longer does it look like a professor trying to adjust his glasses–this looks like football player in a tailored suit.

The design carries over into the interior, which features textured white leather and simple surfaces.

“that’s a VOLKSWAGEN?!” –most people

A slim bevel of real wood cuts through the dash, looking well-integrated and modern.

Just one caveat: this Passat isn’t for the US.

Volkswagen makes two Passats now: one for America, one for everyone else, and this is the one for everyone else.

Hopefully, the American version looks as close as possible to this.

The family sedan is no longer a boring, pudgy beast.

REJOICE!
